A Bayard man involved in a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 26 last month pleaded innocent Wednesday to two counts of drunken driving.

Morrill County Sheriff John Edens and State Patrol trooper Doug Miller said in court documents that 51-year-old Joseph Burford appeared intoxicated at the scene of the accident two miles north of Bayard.

Breath tests measured Burford's blood-alcohol level at over twice the legal limit.

The State Patrol said Burford's pickup collided head-on with the vehicle driven by Carolyn Poss-Mann of Minatare. Poss-Mann was pronounced dead at the scene.
