The U.S. House Thursday passed a bill aimed at protecting unborn children from violence.
The federal measure would allow federal prosecutors to charge an assailant with separate crimes for injuring or killing a pregnant woman and her unborn child.
Nebraska Republican Lee Terry co-sponsored the bill and voted to pass it.
A similar bill has been introduced in the U.S. Senate, where Nebraska Democrat Ben Nelson and Republican Chuck Hagel are co-sponsors.
