Lincoln City Council Member Terry Werner says wants to see companies who contract with the city be required to pay a poverty level wage. The proposed Ordinance would require that companies who contract with the city pay $8.85 an hour to their employees. Companies that don't offer health insurance would have to pay $9.73.
For Non-Profit Organizations that receive money from the city the same would be true, if they get 25-thousand dollars or more and have 10 employees working in the program that receives the money.
According to the Joint Budget Committee and Werner, only five agencies get more than 25-thousand dollars from the city. These groups will only be affected if they have more than 10 employees.
The vote on this Ordinance could come as early as Monday
