The Omaha City Personnel board has voted to give officer Tariq Al-Amin his job back.

The 23-year police veteran was fired last fall after he criticized Reverend William Barlowe for donating $100 to the children of slain officer Jason Pratt in the name of the children of Pratt's alleged killer, Albert Rucker.

On a public access television show, Al-Amin held up an open straight razor and encouraged Rucker's children to use the razor to cut Barlowe's throat. Al-Amin said he did not intend for his comments to be taken literally.

The five-member Personnel Board called a daylong meeting Thursday to consider whether to return Al-Amin to the police force.

The board ordered Al-Amin to issue a public apology and take the 20-day suspension without pay.
