The Nebraska Humane Society says it has recovered about 40 animals abandoned on an Auburn property, including dogs, chickens, ducks and a cat.
A Humane Society official also said they found a fire pit filled with trash and the remains of three puppies.
Officials say several of the animals were found in unsanitary conditions and many had inadequate food, shelter and water.
The Nemaha County Sheriff's Department is investigating. It's unclear what, if any charges might come from the case. A phone message left for sheriff's officials Friday wasn't immediately returned.
