President Bush has announced Lux Middle School math teacher Myrna Bornemeier of Lincoln and Omaha North High School science teacher Dan Sitzman for the Presidential Award for Excellence.

The awards in math and science teaching are considered the highest U.S. commendation of their kind. The Nebraska winners joined 95 other winners nationwide in Washington, DC, this week for an awards ceremony.

The honored teachers had meetings with educational leaders and a series of professional development events in the nation's capital.

Award recipients also receive $10,000 each from the National Science Foundation.
