Officials are seeking to change the traffic laws near a rural school near Cozad. That's after a Dawson County teenager was killed in a car accident outside the school.

Traffic speeds past the District 29 school at 60 miles per hour.

Seventeen-year-old Michael Baldwin was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday after his car was hit by a pickup.

Baldwin had just picked up his 15-year-old brother Maxwell at the school. Maxwell Baldwin suffered critical injuries.

The driver of the pickup. Bradford Niles, was treated and released from a Cozad hospital.

Cozad resident LaVonne Lausten said she would like to see the speed near the school reduced. She said the school at the intersection of State Highway 21 and Road 758 could also use a blinking yellow light.

Dawson County Commissioners have agreed to ask the state to conduct a survey at the intersection.
