State Patrol Colonel Tom Nesbitt says regional efforts to create a common police radio network are welcome as officials work to create a statewide system.

Buffalo, Hall, Adams and Dawson counties in central Nebraska have discussed a common frequency that would be used in emergencies. Other counties also have been invited into that effort.

Nesbitt wants to help build a system for all of Nebraska. He says the project is a priority. But the Statewide Communications Alliance of Nebraska says state funding does not appear to be imminent.

Should that change, Major General Roger Lempke of the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency says the regional efforts could eventually become part of a statewide network.
