A suspect was arrested early Wednesday in the death of a man whose body was found last week in an abandoned farmhouse north of Hooper.

Dodge County Sheriff Don Weddle says a 27-year-old Fremont man was being held on suspicion of first-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The victim has been tentatively identified as Robert Gonzalez. Weddle says Gonzalez had been hit with a blunt object and shot early Friday. He is believed to have been in his 30s or early 40s.

A person who rents farmland on which the house stands called police Friday afternoon after finding the body.
