The world's largest retailer wants to keep its customers even after they die.
Wal-Mart has started selling caskets on its Web site at prices that undercut most funeral homes, long the major seller of caskets.
The move follows a similar one by discount rival Costco, which also sells caskets on its site.
Wal-Mart quietly put up about 15 caskets and dozens of urns on its Web site last week.
Prices range from $999 for models like "Dad Remembered" and "Mom Remembered" steel caskets to the mid-level $1,699 "Executive Privilege." All are less than $2,000, except for the Sienna Bronze Casket, which sells for $3,199.
Caskets ship within 48 hours. Federal law requires funeral homes to accept third-party caskets.

jenny, you really think walmart's a god-sent huh? so you're saying if it can be made in another country for 1/32nd of the price, bring on the death of our nations economy? some things at the larger hardware store are still made here, but not many. ill go to the QP on 48th street over any hardware store, including any ace, home depot, lowes, menards, etc. same with auto parts. A street first, then snow. no advance, orileys, napa, auto zone, etc. point- live local, buy local, support local. the CEOs of all the others can still benefit from all the big cities that they practically own, but id like to keep my town under its own power. too late for lincoln though, we've got three, but we HAVE TO do everything possible to save surrounding areas. walmart is a disease. an epidemic if you will. BUY LOCAL!
Margaret, that's all I ever hear about Wal-Mart, they are taking over all the small stores, nobody ever says that about Menards or other big stores taking over? I say if you find something that helps people save money, bring it on!
i love Wally World.........they have great prices
Wal-Mart is encroaching into to many areas. In the small towns the store fronts on Main Street are all disappearing because of Wal-Mart.
This will surely bring out all the Wal-mart haters again.
dang just what i want to be buried in a walmart special. I can see this happening save money live better. save money die happy also.
IT'S A GOOD THING. SOME PEOPLE CAN NOT AFFORD THE PRICES THE OTHER COMPANYS ARE CHARGING.
This is ridiculous. I mean yeah it's a good store with prices and all, but there's a fine line and they have stepped over it.
