Hall County Jail Repairs

Taxpayers in Hall County may have to pay for upgrading a portion of the Hall County Jail--despite the fact that the jail may end up being demolished anyway.

The main concern about the jail is the ventilation in the basement of the old portion of the building. That section of the jail was built in 1904, and the state Fire Marshal's office has demanded that the renovations be made to keep the building up to code.

Hall County Corrections Director Dave Arnold says the airflow improvements have been put off for several years, but now must be done.

However, the county, which had set aside $50,000 for renovations, was hoping the improvements would not be necessary. Voters are scheduled to vote on a jail bond in November, which would provide funds to construct a new jail in Hall County.
