The study focuses strictly on property taxes for agricultural lands. State sales taxes and income taxes were not considered in the study.
But as far as property taxes, Nebraska Farmers pay more than any of their neighbors.
Eight of the region's 10 counties with the highest ag property taxes are in Nebraska.
Jeff Bundy of MLB Planning and Policy conducted the study. He said Nebraska ag property taxes are high because the state taxes land based on market value as opposed to other states where land is taxed based on potential income the land can yield.
