Farmers and businesses who are worried about being held liable if people are hurt trying to steal anhydrous ammonia would be shielded from lawsuits under a bill passed Thursday.

The fertilizer is commonly used to make the drug methamphetamine.

Under the bill, an owner of anhydrous ammonia would not be liable from the injury, death or any other loss or damage due to tampering with the fertilizer.

The owner would have liability if the loss or damage was caused by the willful, wanton, reckless, or grossly negligent conduct of the owner.

The bill passed unanimously.
