Nebraska lawmakers have introduced several more budget bills in response to the projected $334 million state budget shortfall.
Five bills were introduced Thursday morning, the second day of the Legislature's special session.
At least two of the bills could make it harder to balance the budget, because they would block cuts Gov. Dave Heineman has proposed.
One from state Sen. Brenda Council of Omaha would prevent Heineman's proposed transfer of $3 million from the job training fund.
Another bill backed by a group of 14 senators would prevent the transfer of money from funds farmers pay to help research and promote their crops. Heineman's proposal includes dipping into the corn, sorghum and wheat funds for about $750,000.

Why should state employees be exempt from furloughs and job cuts? My spouse and I both have had drastic cuts in our wages and will lose our jobs permanently in December due to a plant closure. You shouldn't be immune to any of it just because you have a state job. It's just a job and we all know how much waste there is in any government agency.
Great. Sounds like the senators want to block everything and take my job along with other state employees. Now that makes so much sense doesn't it? Maybe the senators' jobs should be on the line? I bet they wouldn't be blocking budget cuts then.
