Lux Middle School hosted 48 local veterans Friday as part of its 11th Annual Veterans Day celebration. The veterans represented all military branches of service.
Lincoln City Councilman and Air Force Veteran John Camp addressed the students at a morning assembly. Students spent the rest of the day with veterans in small groups, learning about their contributions to military service.
The program is aimed at teaching Lux Middle School 8th graders about patriotism and love of country.
"At this stage in their lives they are very unsure about patriotism so this allows them to learn love of country and to learn the sacrifice that others have made so they could have freedoms that they enjoy every single day", said Kathi Mercure, 8th grade Social Studies teacher at Lux and organizer of the event.
