The Nebraska - Oklahoma rivalry is one of the oldest in college football. Before the Big 12 split them into different divisions, the Cornhuskers and the Sooners went head-to-head for 71 consecutive seasons. Now they only play each other twice every four years, which makes this week's game extra special for fans from both sides.
Nebraska fan Cal Kazebeer of Lincoln says he always looks forward to playing Oklahoma.
"It's always been a couple of top notch football teams that play hard out there and it's been that way since the 70s, since Switzer and Osborne were always butting heads, it's just been a great rivalry and a great time. So we're looking forward to the game, and it's always good no matter what the score is," said Kazebeer.
And Husker fans always go the extra mile to show support for their team.
"You gotta have a Husker shirt on, whether it's red or black or white, and you gotta fly the Husker flag," Kazebeer said.
But where do fans get all their Husker gear? Husker Headquarters is a popular spot, where they have everything Husker you can think of, and some things you can't.
From toothbrushes, to anniversary cards, to dog clothing, and Christmas decorations, and of course, lots of shirts. Husker Headquarters Owner Cheyenne Hemphill says for big games like Oklahoma, they sell even more.
"Definitely when it's a big game we always do well, during a rivalry game like Oklahoma, even though we don't play them every year, it's still a big big game in Lincoln," said Hemphill. "We do a gameday t-shirt with the Nebraska and Oklahoma helmets on it. We do them for every home game, but for the bigger games we do a lot more, and we have them for $9.95 and they do really well."
And it's not just Husker fans buying them up, they're popular with fans from the away team as well. But even though they're cheering for different teams, fans from both sides say it's just a friendly competition.
"The rivalry with Oklahoma is really nice because the fans are great down there, they treat us good when we go to Oklahoma, and of course, we return the favor when they come up here," Kazebeer said.
