Lincoln police say an officer shot a fleeing driver in the arm after the driver tried to run over the officer and hit two parked cars.
Police Chief Tom Casady says the driver, 18-year-old Brian C. Hassenplug of Lincoln, was captured later Saturday night at 2740 Orchard Street and taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the officer had been responding to a disturbance outside some Lincoln apartments at 4300 Cornhusker Highway when two stolen vehicles sped off. Casady says Hassenplug tried to hit an officer and struck two parked vehicles, including a police car.
Casady says the officer fired one shot at Hassenplug, hitting him in the arm. But police say Hassenplug kept going.
Hassenplug was arrested regarding an outstanding warrant for possession of burglar tools. He was also arrested for possession of stolen property and a parole violation.
