The Lincoln Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit will join a nationwide “Click it or Ticket” enforcement effort from Monday, November 23, 2009 through Sunday, November 29, 2009.
This increased enforcement is made possible through a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety. Special attention by law enforcement will be directed to those motorists who fail to buckle themselves, their passengers and children.
According to the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety, one in every 23 licensed drivers in Nebraska will be involved in a motor vehicle collision each year. The use of safety belts can cut the risk of death or serious injury in a crash by 45 to 50 percent. Therefore, the single most important thing you can do to protect yourself and passengers in your vehicle is to buckle up each and every trip.
If your vehicle is equipped with airbags, the use of the seatbelt is even more critical. These safety devices work in concert with each other and offer you the best protection in the event of a collision.
