Sheriff deputies arrested two people for buying excessive amounts of pseudoephedrine to make meth.
Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner said Melissa and Skyler Spear were arrested November 17th for possession of ephedrine with the intent to manufacture meth.
Wagner said deputies were contacted on the 11th by a pharmacist at Hy-vee reporting suspicious pseudoephedrine purchases. Wagner said several people in a van in the parking lot were taking turns coming into the store to buy the drug which is a component of meth. Under a recent law individuals can only buy 3.6 grams of ephedrine a day and 9 grams in a month.
Wagner said the same van began showing up around town at other pharmacies and the same names were appearing on the required sales forms.
Wagner said the van showed up at a Shopko and Walgreens and deputies were able to track the van to Interstate 80 where they arrested Melissa and Skyler Spear.
Deputies found 322 assorted brands of pseudoephedrine tablets along with other evidence that the couple were going to use the drugs to make meth.
Wagner said several other people were used to purchase the drugs and they may also face charges. The investigation is still ongoing.
