Lincoln Police and Lancaster County Deputies are both investigating copper thefts over the weekend.
Officer Katie Flood said Willmar Electric Service reported the theft of 12 spools of copper Monday morning. Flood said someone cut the padlock on their trailer at a work site at 6001 Village Drive sometime over the weekend. A supervisor found the theft when he came to work Monday. The spools add up to 13,500 feet of copper wire worth $3,100.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Deputies also received a report of more than $3,000 worth of copper stolen from a home. Sheriff Terry Wagner said a home at 1980 S. 116th Circle was being rewired by Pride Homes.
Sometime over the weekend someone stripped 6,000 feet of newly installed wiring. The total loss is $7,400 with reinstallation costs.
Police Chief Tom Casady said copper is worth twice what it was last year.
