According to Officer Katie Flood of the Lincoln Police Department, Travis Gingery, 23, was determined to be the person responsible for three recent thefts of donation jars at convenience stores.

Those donations were made to help send blind children to camp. Surveillance photos had been placed on Crimestoppers, but a detective recognized Gingery as the man responsible.

Police say Gingery has been cited for 3 counts of misdemeanor shoplifting. His court date is set for December 22nd. Lincoln police have not determined whether he is responsible for a similar theft that occurred in June, in which a donation jar for U.S. troops was taken.

Police say the clerk reported the suspect entered the store with his hands in his pockets and seemed nervous. He walked around before asking to use the bathroom. He then said there was a mouse in the men's restroom and was told to use the women's. After coming out, he asked for a pack of cigarettes. When the clerk went to get the cigarettes, the suspect grabbed the donation jar, titled "Send a Blind Child to Camp", and ran out of the store southbound and then eastbound. There was approximately $19 in the donation jar.

Police say on Saturday October 24th at 10pm, at the Shell Stop & Shop at 1107 Belmont Avenue, the clerk reported that a customer came into the store and hung out for approximately twenty minutes. He claimed he was waiting for a ride. At one point, the customer went to the far end of the store and told the clerk that there was a huge bug on the floor. When the clerk went to capture the bug, police say the man grabbed the donation jar for the National Camps for the Blind and ran out of the store. An estimated $25 was stolen.

Police say on Saturday October 24th at 9:15 PM, at the Shell Food Mart at 6006 Havelock, an employee discovered the donation box for blind children missing from the front counter of the business. He went back through the video surveillance of the store and found that on the above time and date a man distracted the clerk, grabbed the box and ran out of the store. The clerk on duty advised that an unknown male customer told him that the men's toilet was over flowing. When he went to check it out, the suspect grabbed the box without his knowledge. Unknown amount of change in the box.

Travis Gingery was recently lodged in jail for the theft of two gold coins valued at $2,870.00 from Lincoln Gold & Bullion. That theft occurred November 13th at 5 p.m. Travis was arrested November 21st for felony theft by shoplifting.

Police say Gingery was also mentioned in April 2009 after he took a master set of locker keys and stole cash from numerous lockers at East High.
