During the nation's economic downturn, small businesses have faced serious challenges. Getting burglarized only makes the problem worse. A small business in Lincoln is now trying to recover after a weekend burglary, and the crime proved to be quite costly.
"It probably took me two full days just to get everything back in place and put the files where they needed to go," Kathy Hagge says. She's the owner of Luckie's Lounge in northwest Lincoln. She discovered her business was burglarized early Sunday morning, November 22nd. Police say there were no signs of forced entry, but there was some damage inside. "There was some damage to an office area where some pry marks were. There were some pry marks on a cabinet that had been storing some liquor," LPD officer Matt Tangen says.
Police say the thief or thieves took a computer, a printer, a fax machine, and even hauled off a safe. "The safe weighed probably 12 to 13 hundred pounds," Hagge says. "It wasn't just something one person could easily pick up and carry out. It had to have been more than one person."
Surveillance cameras can be found both inside and outside of Luckie's Lounge, but the owner says for some reason, the suspect or suspects did not get caught on tape.
Authorities say the total loss for the business is around $8,600, and now Hagge is left to re-organize and replace everything that was damaged or lost. "You know, its the inconvenience of it," Hagge says. "Of now having to run back and get those things replenished and try to run a shop as well, so it's the time factor along with the money factor that has put everything in a tailspin."
A tailspin that has been slowed by the support of customers. Hagge says she's thankful for that, but would be even more thankful if the suspect or suspects in the case get caught. If you have any information, call Crimestoppers.
