On a day of giving thanks, many are giving back to those less fortunate.
For 19 years, Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach has served meals twice a day, everyday to Lincoln's working poor and homeless.
On Thanksgiving, visitors were treated to a homecooked meal allowing men, women and children to take part in the annual Thanksgiving tradition.
For Mark McGrath of Lincoln, Thanksgiving dinner at Matt Talbot Kitchen is something he's been looking forward to.
McGrath says, "It's plentiful, there's plenty to go around, it's good home-cookin."
But according to McGrath, it's more than just a meal. "They've helped me in a few different ways, with some medical issues and some advice and steered me and others in the right direction."
Twice a day, everyday, volunteers at the Kitchen and Outreach plate up meals for Lincoln's less fortunate.
Ruth McKinstry co-founded the Kitchen 19 years ago.
McKinstry says, "There's always people that need help and that's one of my passions is to help people who are homeless and hungry."
Whether it be mashed potatoes and gravy or pumpkin pie topped with whip cream, volunteers are helping make Thanksgiving a meal to remember, thanks in part to the teachings of Matt Talbot.
McKinstry adds, "He devoted his life to helping other people and that's what we do."
McGrath says, "I think it's important to have a place like this so people can feel good about themselves, walk out of here nourished and thinking correctly."
And taking part in a tradition that might not have been possible without the willingness to give back on a day of giving thanks.
Because of the economic downturn, Kitchen officials say they expect to provide 10% more meals this year than last.
