A 23-year-old Laurel woman has filed papers to appeal her year's sentence and her conviction for misdemeanor child abuse.
Court documents say Breann Loberg had been charged with felony assault, intentional child abuse and the misdemeanor child abuse. In September, a jury found her guilty only of the misdemeanor charge.
Loberg was sentenced on Wednesday.
She had been baby-sitting a 15-month-old boy at her home in March 2008 when he suffered severe head injuries.
She told the Wayne County sheriff that Chase Junck of Randolph was on a couch when he stood up, then fell off, striking his head.
Doctors later concluded that his injuries didn't jibe with the fall that Loberg described.
