Holiday Blizzard Breaks Records in GI, Hastings
Nebraska Record breaking amounts of snow and liquid precipitation fell in some Nebraska cities during the "2009 Holiday Blizzard." Some airports are reporting wind gusts of anywhere between 45 and nearly 60 mph during the five day period.

The National Weather Service in Hastings is reporting record breaking snowfall during the "2009 Holiday Blizzard."
According to NWS on Christmas Day a total of 7.8 inches of snow fell at the Central Nebraska Regional Airport in Grand Island. The previous record for Christmas Day snowfall was 3.0 inches in 1941, making 2009 the "'snowiest' Christmas on record for Grand Island."
The snow in GI melted down to 0.51 inches of water, also setting a new record. The previous record for liquid precipitation was 0.20 inches in 1941.

9.2 inches of snow fell at the NWS Office, located north of Hastings, breaking the previous record of 9.0 inches. The old record was set in 1945. The liquid precipitation in that 1945 snow was 1.00 inch. The 2009 snow only measured out to be 0.58 inches, so the 1945 liquid precipitation record still stands.
The NWS in Hastings is also reporting five day totals from the 2009 Holiday Blizzard, as well as Month of December Totals, which can be seen in the box to the left.
The NWS in Omaha/Valley is reporting that 12.9 inches of snow fell at the Lincoln Airport, resulting in 1.37 inches of precipitation. They are also reporting 19.1 inches of snow fall in Norfolk, resulting in 1.25 inches of precipitation.
Wind gusts anywhere from 45 to almost 60 mph were recorded at various airports:

Aurora Airport - 57 mph
Grand Island Airport - 54 mph
Ord Airport - 53 mph
Lincoln Airport - 47 mph (on Dec. 25)
Kearney Airport - 46 mph
