Sarpy County authorities say a 30-year-old-man showed up so drunk for his sentencing for drunken driving that he missed his hearing and now faces even more time behind bars.

Authorities say Jason Botos was driven to the Papillion courthouse on Thursday by his father, who needed help from deputies to get his son out of the vehicle.

Prosecutor Ben Perlman says Botos was so drunk he couldn't attend the hearing, so the judge issued a warrant. Deputies arrested Botos in the parking lot.

Another hearing is set for Tuesday. A jail spokeswoman said Botos remained in custody Friday. Botos' attorney didn't immediately return a call.

Botos had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving in a September 2009 collision with five other vehicles.

Our penal system was started by the Quakers during the Colonial period. It hasn't changed much since. Drugs and alchohol problems should be treated as health problems - not Criminal! But then we couldn't feel all puffed up by judging others - could we.

At least jail knows how to detox an inmate...Sorry but anyone who shows up drunk to his sentencing on a DUI needs to have a reality check. Detox in jail then let him stay for a while. Evidently he knew he was going to jail and decided to go in drunk, like an idiot, not sober like someone who wants to be responsible.
