Firefighters have rescued a woman from an island in the Platte River, and Lincoln County authorities are trying to find out how she got there.
People saw the woman early Monday morning at the river on the northwest side of town and called the sheriff's office.
Deputies found the woman on an island in the middle of the river and called to her. Chief Deputy Sheriff Dean Sparks says the woman just kept walking away.
Deputies then called the North Plate Fire Department, which responded with a ladder truck.
The ladder was extended across the river, and firefighters then rescued the woman.
Sparks says the woman may have been drunk or under the influence of a date-rape drug. She was taken to a local hospital.
Her name has not been released.
