Officer Katie Flood said 35-year-old Christopher M. Awin was brought into detox Wednesday around 2 a.m. for suspicion of driving while intoxicated and speeding.

During the DUI investigation at detox, Awin became angry and began an argument with the police officer said Flood.

Awin proceeded to take the digital recording device of the officer and throw it on the floor and then got into a boxing stance and swung a closed fist at the officer said Flood.

In the scuffle, Awin attempted to remove the officer's TASER from its holster but was not successful, said Flood.

She adds that Officer Hudec, the officer involved, only suffered minor bruising to his left arm during the struggle.

Flood said Awin was cited and lodged for 2nd offense DUI, Refusal to perform a chemical test, attempted 3rd degree assault on an officer & speeding.

This was the 5th assault on a officer this year. In 2009 LPD reported 52 assaults on officers.
