Lincoln police say they've arrested a 21-year-old work-release inmate from Alliance who's suspected of stealing a pickup.
Officer Katie Flood says Brandon Christen was arrested for Possession of Stolen Property. He received an additional citation for Fleeing to Avoid Arrest, Willful Reckless Driving and Driving Under Suspension.
Flood it all started when a man went to work around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at a business on North 21st street. Flood says the driver left a 2002 white Dodge Dakota pickup unlocked. She says the keys were left in a console between the seats.
Flood says around 11:30 a.m., the driver realized his pickup was stolen. He called dispatch, and the pickup was spotted around 11th and N Streets by a public service officer. Flood says police attempted a traffic stop at 11th and M, but the driver, Brandon Christen, didn't stop. Flood says Christen violated a stop sign at 11th and M and 11th and L, barely missing a school bus and a motorcycle. Flood says Christen then began traveling the wrong way on 10th street, and ditched the pickup near a convenience store.
Flood says officers chased Christen on foot along 11th street, when two men nearby saw Christen coming toward them. The men stepped toward Christen, and he gave up near 11th and H Streets. Flood says Christen still had the key to the stolen vehicle in his hand, and his inmate work release papers in his pocket.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services website says Christen was sentenced in February 2009 on a conviction for attempted theft in 2007.
He's being housed at the state's work-release center in Lincoln.
