Statistics on child sexual abuse reflect the need for such training as 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday. The median age for reported sexual abuse is 9 years old.
To reduce these figures, the YWCA Lincoln in partnership with Lincoln's Child Advocacy Center hosts the "Stewards of Children" a sexual abuse prevention and response training program.
The program focuses on what adults can do to protect children and teaches adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child abuse.
The training was developed by "Darkness to Light," a national non-profit organization committed to decreasing the incidence and impact of child sexual abuse by shifting responsibility from children to adults.
