Authorities say a Beatrice High School teacher has been cited for misdemeanor theft of electrical wire.

The Beatrice Daily Sun says Brent Essink teaches industrial technology.

Beatrice Police Capt. Gerald Lamkin says Essink had swapped some wire to a student for an auto part. The value of the wire isn't yet known, but officers measured it at more than 65 feet.

The district superintendent would not comment about Essink's employment status.

Essink refuses to comment, and court records don't yet list the case or Essink's attorney.
