Bond is set at $500,000 for a man suspected of stabbing a Bennington mother while she was trying to protect her children.

A Douglas County judge set bond for 42-year-old Jason Billingsley during a court hearing on Wednesday.

Billingsley is accused of stabbing Amy Phillips in the back with a pocketknife while she walking with her two sons near their home on Monday. Phillips is recovering.

Billingsley is charged with second-degree assault and a weapons
count. He faces two additional assault charges after prosecutors
say he attacked two deputies who were taking him to court.

Online court records don't yet list his attorney. Billingsley's family said he served in the Iraq war and suffers from bipolar and post-traumatic stress disorder.
