A 45-year-old California woman who was helping haul 122 pounds of marijuana across Nebraska has been given 20 to 30 months in prison.
Elizabeth Venegas, of Santa Rosa, Calif., had pleaded guilty in May to possession of more than a pound of marijuana. Venegas was sentenced on Monday.
Authorities say Venegas was driving a rental vehicle on Jan. 13 last year when she was stopped for speeding near the Lincoln Airport exit off Interstate 80. A follow-up search uncovered 16 packages of pot in a luggage carrier atop the SUV.
Her passenger, 29-year-old Luis Romero, also from Santa Rosa, Calif., was given three to five years for attempted delivery of marijuana.
