Omaha officials are honoring Nebraska's first female firefighter before she retires.

Mayor Jim Suttle has scheduled a recognition ceremony Tuesday morning for Carolyn "Kelly" Williams. Officials say Williams is the first paid professional female firefighter in Nebraska.

Williams joined the Millard Fire Department in 1986. She has been a member of the Omaha Fire Department since 1998. She is scheduled to retire on Dec. 31.
