Doane College in Crete plans to add a 100-member marching band to perform at sporting events.

Music professor Lance Nielsen says the Mighty Tiger Marching Band will expand music education majors' experience and education, while heightening school spirit.

For years, the school has only had a pep band playing at sporting events. The marching band will begin performing during the 2013-14 academic year.

Nielsen says the band will perform at home football games in pre-game shows.

Toward the end of the season, the marching band plans to perform short halftime shows.

Their first performance will be at the first home football game on Sept. 14.
