Double Burglaries Puzzle Lincoln Police

Lincoln Police say there were two burglaries at one business over a 3-day span.

Lincoln Police say they don't happen often, but when they do, investigators move them to the top of their priority list. Right now, they're investigating two of those types of cases.

First, Lincoln's Haymarket to Eurasia Russian Store at 809 P Street. The shop sits amongst popular businesses, but somehow burglars were able to sneak in overnight on November 24th.

LPD Officer Matt Tangen says, "They noticed they were missing the money out of two different cash registers. Pretty high dollar loss in this case, over $1,600."

Investigators don't know how the criminals got in. Even more boggling, they were able to do it twice. A couple days later, owners showed up to a similar scene, but this time, burglars went for goods instead of cash.

"They were missing nine cell phones, which is one of the products sold there, and about 20 packs of cigarettes were stolen," said Tangen.

This made the total loss to more than $2,000.

That same Saturday night, Police responded to Anh Computers at 20th and O Streets on a burglar alarm.

"One of the doors to the business had been pried open. Once that was forced open, somebody got inside and they were able to steal three laptop computers," said Tangen.

The $500 loss was tough to swallow for owners who opened the shop just six months ago. But their problems would only get worse three days later.

"They found that a door had been prayed open, somebody got inside and, in this case, they stole 12 laptop computers. So that's 15 total over just a few days," said Tangen.

After Police filed their report, owners later learned they were missing six more laptops. Bringing the total loss to 21 laptops, valued at $2,300. To add insult to injury, the day before the second break-in, owners started the process of installing a surveillance camera. Unfortunately, it wasn't finished in time. If you know anything about either of these cases, call Crimestoppers at 475-3600.
