Fire School Simulation Ignites Actual Fire

The Grand Island Fire Department came to the aid of a thousand volunteer firefighters who were attending the 75th annual Nebraska State Fire School.

The local department responded twice on Sunday to fight trash bin fires at Fonner Park, the site of the fire school.

Debris from a fire simulation class had been placed in a trash bin.

Officials say the debris reignited and the local department was called out so the other firefighters could continue their classes.

No injuries were reported.

The Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighters Association holds the fire school every year, teaching firefighting, fire investigation and prevention skills and emergency medical techniques to volunteer firefighters.
