Grand Island firefighters were called to stand by at the Case New Holland manufacturing plant overnight Tuesday night.
GIFD Chief Troy Hughes says Monday's storm damaged the plant's sprinkler system and fire pump. Though not required by city code, plant officials felt they could only resume operation if a fire crew was on stand by.
Hughes says it was an unusual request, but they do have a system in place for such a call.
"We don't normally do this, it was kind of an off-the-wall request, but we used the same fee structure that we used for the State Fair last year," he said.
The State Fair was the first time GIFD had received a request to be on stand by, and Hughes said they contacted the Lincoln Fire Department for information on how they assessed their fees.
CNH will be charged $137 an hour. That covers the three-person crew and truck. Hughes said they started about 10 p.m. Tuesday night, and left around 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon after the sprinkler system came back online.
