A Grand Island man has been charged with 12 felony counts following his arrest Thursday.
Jeffrey Smith is charged with three counts of kidnapping and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, among other charges.
Grand Island Police say Smith used a handgun and a rifle to hold three people in an apartment Thursday.
Authorities arrested him after a call from one of the victims, and neighbors watched the arrest happen from across the street.
"We received a report that he had threatened two females and refused to let them leave a residence," Grand Island Police Officer Butch Hurst says.
"All we hear is this loud boom and we come to the window and they're reaching in the door and running inside," neighbor Douglas Stewart says.
Stewart says GIPD and a SWAT team made the arrest around 8 P.M. at 2910 West Anna Street.
A Hall County judge ordered Smith not to contact the kidnap victims. Smith is being held in Hall County Jail and Judge Phillip Martin set his bond at 10% of $1 million.
