Update: Arrests Made in Vicious Fight on Lincoln StarTran Bus

Web Extra: Surveillance Video of Fight Scene

Arrest Made in Bus Fight

Two women have turned themselves in to Lincoln Police, after surveillance video caught them beating up another woman on a StarTran bus December 30.

The most recent suspect to come forward is 20-year-old Marsha Lewis. Police cited and released Lewis Friday afternoon for Assault, Child Neglect and Disturbing the Peace by Fighting.

Flood said 20-year-old Imani Collins also turned herself in and was cited for misdemeanor assault, child abuse and disturbing the peace.

Lincoln Police Officer Katie Flood said Crimestoppers received nine tips since we showed you the video of the bus fight Wednesday.

Flood says one of the children in the video is Collins' three-year-old child.

According to Flood, the attack stemmed from comments made on a social networking site between the 21-year-old victim, Collins and Lewis.

"It's kind of an interesting case just due to the fact that the whole thing was captured on video and it's quite the thing to watch," Officer Matt Tangen with Lincoln Police said.

What started out as a normal bus ride, quickly took an ugly turn. The video shows the victim talking on the phone when two women approach her. Suddenly one slaps her.

"The fight begins and it carries on for quite some time," Tangen said.

The attackers' young children are abandoned on the back of the bus. Then it's a free-for-all of hitting and hair pulling. The bus driver eventually stops the bus and calls police.

"It becomes pretty violent at times," Tangen said.

What happens next is terrifying.

"Then the kids kind of get up and walk around," Tangen said. "They're almost trampled at one point in the mist of the fight.

The fighting is so intense, the video shows a weave of hair flying through the air, and the children see everything. As the savage fight continues, no one interferes. StarTran tells its drivers not to get involved for their own safety and LPD recommends the same.

"I would hate for somebody else to get hurt or for things to escalate," Tangen said. "Certainly nobody was doing the wrong thing by not getting involved if they didn't feel comfortable doing that."

The suspects then try to get off the bus before the police get there, but the doors were locked.

"They end up opening the window, crawling out the window and passing the kids right out the window," Tangen said.

The victim leaves a short time later, before police arrive.

Flood says the victim was attacked again near 28th and O Street.

According to Flood, the victim did not initially report the attack because she had a local warrant out for her arrest. That warrant has since been resolved.

Flood says the victims suffered scratches to her neck and face. She also had four spots on her head where hair was ripped out. One of those was a 5 inch by 2 inch strip.
