On Saturday, children who are participating in a support group at Mourning Hope Grief Center came to Nebraska Wesleyan University's ceramics studio for a collaborative project.
As part of the support group's "Art From Our Heart" project, they spent Saturday morning making large ceramic bowls to be sold at Nebraska Wesleyan's annual Bowls For Backpacks fundraiser lunch in February.
For the past two years, NWU has hosted Bowls for Backpacks, a soup lunch that benefits the Food Bank of Lincoln's Backpack Program. Attendees have their choice from nearly 500 homemade ceramic bowls made by Lincoln-area school children, after school program participants, college students, civic organizations, teachers and trauma patients.
The bowls will be sold at Wesleyan's Bowls for Backpacks event.
Nebraska Wesleyan art students and faculty helped approximately 20 children from the Mourning Hope Grief Center make and glaze ceramic bowls.
In 2006, Mourning Hope moved to the Nebraska Wesleyan campus and since then the grief center and university has collaborated on a variety of projects.
