Firefighters have controlled two fires that together burned about 1,600 acres in west central Nebraska.
KNOP-TV in North Platte says both fires started when property owners tried to burn small areas, but the fires grew out of control
when the wind picked up.
Custer County Emergency Management Director Shawn Owens says one fire burned about 640 acres in rugged terrain about five miles east
of Arnold.
Owens says the second fire burned about 1,000 acres near Callaway.
No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged by the fires.
Firefighters brought the blazes under control Tuesday afternoon.
