A federal judge says those suing over a changes made to Nebraska's sex offender laws cannot call the Nebraska attorney general, his staff or state lawmakers to the stand in next month's trial.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Cheryl Zwart ruled Friday on the motion to call Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning, three of his staff members and state Sens. Scott Lautenbaugh, Peter Pirsch and John Harms to testify.

The case stems from a federal lawsuit filed in 2009 on behalf of dozens of convicted sex offenders to stop changes in the state sex offender laws.

The changes included requirements for computers of convicted sex offenders to be monitored by authorities and bans offends from using social networking sites and chat rooms accessible to minors.
