The Trails and Rails Museum in Kearney has announced plans to build a "family history center" on adjacent land.
The $3.1 million building would house artifacts, offices, space for traveling exhibits, a conference room and a gift shop.
The museum board of directors hopes to break ground in September and open the building in early 2014.
Board chairman Gary Straatmann said Thursday that the structure's working title is the "family history center." He says the museum is "becoming the place where people want to donate family history."
