School officials in Lewiston and Pawnee City are considering merging the two districts.
Lewistown superintendent Bruce McCoy says public support for the consolidation has been mixed, but the two schools districts are a good fit. The Lewiston district has been discussing reorganization for years because of decreasing enrollment and has also considered mergers with Filley, Adams, Sterling, Table Rock and Wymore.
The consolidation plan would allow Lewiston and Pawnee City to continue operating their current elementary schools. Seventh- and eighth-graders would go to Lewiston, and high school students to
Pawnee City.
McCoy says the districts will review the results of surveys sent to residents before making a final decision. If approved, the merger could happen next school year.
