A 17-year-old Lincoln teen who stabbed a 5-year-old girl numerous times with a kitchen knife Saturday morning has been charged with 1st Degree Assault and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony.
His bail is set at $200,000. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 7 at 10 a.m.
Police say the teen suffers from a mental condition that affects cognitive function following a traumatic brain injury.
The boy was outside the home where it happened in the 1600 block of Garfield with two women that live there just before the stabbing.
Police say he even stayed at the home after stabbing the girl -- who is still in critical, but stable, condition.
Police said the little girl was stabbed several times in her back and chest.
The girl's 17-year-old brother said, "He went inside and grabbed a kitchen knife and went in the room with my little sisters and stabbed the five-year-old about four or five times. I know he got her right here in the stomach and the chest and then got her in the back a couple times and she tried to leave."
Her mother tells 10/11 the little girl has a lacerated liver, but at this time does not need surgery. She's currently hospitalized in the ICU. Her mother is asking for the public's prayers.
The suspect is being held in the Lancaster County Youth Detention Center.
10/11 News has decided not to release his identity because he's a minor.
