Below is Mark Whitehead's statement on why he's not submitting his name for the Lincoln City Council vacant position.

“I am honored that former Lincoln City Council member Adam Hornung recommended that my name be submitted for consideration by the full City Council to fill his seat on our City Council. I want to thank him for doing that and I truly appreciate his support of a job creating small businessman to fill his seat on the Council. I also want to thank the many friends and supporters who took the time to make phone calls and send messages of support. However, at this time, I have chosen to not submit my name for the vacancy caused by Mr. Hornung’s resignation."

“Comments were made in a Lincoln Journal Star news article by a city council member stating that their preference would be to select a person to fill the vacancy who would not run for a full term on the City Council. Since that article appeared, I have spoken to other Council members who have indicated that this is the preference of a majority of members on the City Council. My interest in serving the people of Lincoln on our City Council would be to serve for a full four-year term. I believe the City Council could use another voice of a small businessman who wants to create good jobs in Lincoln, reduce government regulation on homeowners and small businesses, represent our strong neighborhoods throughout the city and who will keep close watch on the taxpayers’ dollars and live within our budget without raising taxes. Since I am not interested in only serving a 5-month term – and that appears to be the consensus of the Council majority – I saw no reason for me to submit my name at this time to fill Mr. Hornung’s vacancy."

“I intend to announce my future intentions regarding the Lincoln City Council in the next few days or weeks.”
