Measures on Ballot Include Raises, Hunting Rights

Four ballot measures are being put in Nebraska voters' hands, including whether state senators should get their first raise since 1988 and be allowed to serve an extra term.

Voters also will choose Tuesday whether to expand the grounds for impeachment and establish a state constitutional right to hunt and fish.

The salary proposal would boost state senators' pay from the current $12,000 to $22,500 annually.

The term limit proposal would allow senators to serve up to three consecutive four-year terms. The current limit is two terms.

An impeachment ballot measure would allow elected officials to be thrown out of office for wrongdoings during campaigns. Currently, the law applies to actions taken in office.

Hunting advocates say they're seeking the constitutional protection because of animal-rights activists' efforts in other states.
