A lawmaker has introduced a bill that would make it illegal for any child younger than 8 years old to ride on a motorcycle in Nebraska.
Lincoln Sen. Bill Avery introduced a bill Monday that would insert the age requirement into state law.
Five other states have enacted age minimums for motorcycle passengers, according to the American Motorcyclist Association. Arkansas requires that children be at least 8 years old, while Hawaii mandates that passengers be at least 7 years old. Louisiana, Texas and Washington each require that passengers be at least 5 years old.
A spokesman for the American Motorcyclist Association says his group prefers passenger restrictions that are based on physical size rather than age.
