Salem High School students Breonna Jones, a senior who plays the piccolo, and Kaleigh Ward, a 10th-grade flute player, got in some practice Thursday afternoon after being dismissed for early release day. School Band Director Ben Tingle has been working extra hard with the students this week to prepare for the upcoming fourth annual Rockdale County Public Schools Marching Band Exhibition, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rockdale County High School.

More than 32 high school bands from across the state will perform in Lincoln for what's billed as Nebraska's largest marching band festival.

The 13th annual Links Marching Band Contest and Festival will be
held Saturday at Lincoln High School. The event begins at 1 p.m.
and concludes with an awards ceremony scheduled for 10:45 p.m.
Bands are scheduled to perform every 15 minutes.

LHS band director Chris Watson says the student musicians work hard to put on a good show and the competition is a way of rewarding them.

Admission costs $6 for adults and $3 for students.
